Fix It Friday

Before:

I used Lightroom 3, Beta 2 for the edits.

The first thing I noticed is that the focus is on the doll instead of the sweet little girl's face, so I tried to sharpen the picture and then reduce the noise a little bit to smooth everything back out. This difference is really obvious if you click on the pictures to see the larger versions, but not so much in the small pictures shown on this page.

Next, I warmed up the white balance a bit and ran the "Punch" preset.

Lastly, I made the crop a tad tighter and rotated the picture a tiny bit.

I was taking shots of Sweet Pea when something startled her and as a photographer, I love how I captured her microexpression of fear. However, as her mom, this picture makes me feel very uneasy.

I snuck into the nursery one afternoon and took this picture of my Sweet Pea before I woke her from her nap. I am crazy about it because she looks so sweet and peaceful. :)

I loved this is a picture of my mom (Mimi) looking out the front storm door at my daughter (Sweet Pea). Mimi was telling Sweet Pea an exciting story and I just loved the expression on her face in this shot.

Notes to myself on taking Family Pictures

I took some pictures of my good friend and her family yesterday and as I looked through the pictures I had a few ideas about how to make improvements next time.

The pictures of dad looking at baby are much better than the pictures of dad looking at the camera:
The closer the subject is to the camera the better.
The closer the subject's faces are together the better.
Carry a cloth to wipe drool and dirt off of babies faces.

I tried taking a self portrait with my new camera, but apparently my arms aren't long enough. :) I only have one lens and I couldn't get my face in focus at such close range so I had to use an old picture. In this one, I had been playing around with my daughter and trying to get a picture of us together, but took this one of me alone too.

I just got my first dSLR (Nikon d50) and have only been playing around with it for a few days. It is so much better than my old point-and-shoot! I started this blog just so I could enter the I ♥ Faces contest this week.

I took this picture of my Sweet Pea in her Easter dress at my mom's house. I loved the atmosphere and her expression. Everything looks so new and peaceful.
